{"id":88,"date":"2010-01-05T10:06:30","date_gmt":"2010-01-05T16:06:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.drbilltoth.com\/blog\/?p=88"},"modified":"2010-01-05T10:23:28","modified_gmt":"2010-01-05T16:23:28","slug":"whats-working-for-social-media-marketers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.drbilltoth.com\/?p=88","title":{"rendered":"What&#8217;s Working for Social Media Marketers?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This all makes total sense when you remember WHY people use Facebook.<\/p>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">A look at effectiveness<\/span><\/strong> <small><small>JANUARY 5, 2010<\/small><\/small><\/span> <span style=\"font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;\"><br \/>\nA September 2009 <a title=\"MarketingProfs\" href=\"http:\/\/www.marketingprofs.com\/store\/product\/34\/the-state-of-social-media-marketing\/?adref=sosmemktr\" target=\"_blank\">MarketingProfs<\/a> survey of business-to-business (B2B)<br \/>\nand business-to-consumer (B2C) marketers found that the marketing tactics<br \/>\nmost often used on social sites are not necessarily the best ones. <\/span><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;\">The most common marketing tactic used on Facebook was attempting to<br \/>\ndrive traffic to corporate materials through status updates, followed by friending<br \/>\ncustomers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The most effective tactic for consumer-oriented companies was creating a<br \/>\nFacebook application, which was done by less than one-quarter of total<br \/>\nrespondents.\u00a0\u00a0 Both B2B and B2C companies also reported surveys of their<br \/>\nfans as effective; fan surveys were the third-most-common tactic attempted.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;\">Buying ads\u2014even targeted ones\u2014was the least effective type of social media<br \/>\nmarketing overall.<\/span><br \/>\n&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;<\/p>\n<p>Remember people use Facebook to connect or Re-connect with people they know.\u00a0 They&#8217;re not going to Facebook to find the &#8220;latest deal&#8221; or to get a coupon or to find a sale.\u00a0 They respond well to surveys because they&#8217;re being asked a question versus being sold something.<\/p>\n<p>Simply put it is a GREAT way to reconnect with people and to open the conversation that ultimately leads to &#8220;what do you do?&#8221;.\u00a0 Remember it takes time and mulltiple contacts to get to that point&#8230;and remember when you finally get there&#8230;NEVER give your website thru Facebook &#8230;..ALWAYS do the actually giving of\u00a0 your website over the phone.\u00a0 Connect connect connect!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This all makes total sense when you remember WHY people use Facebook.
