A hunger for knowledge vs a Thirst for Life

Timothy Ferriss..has traveled completely around the globe, has been featured in National Geographic, the NY Times, speaks six languages,
holds a world record in tango dancing, is a national kickboxing champion, an actor, an author and a serial entrepreneur…..and all by the age of 30.  Here’s a comment for new business owners and existing business owners seeking to grow.

Action may not always bring happiness, but there is no happiness without action“.

-Benjamin Disraeli

Pure hell forces action, anything less can be endured with enough rationalization“.

But you don’t understand my situation.  It’s complicated“.  Never confuse complex with difficult.  Most situations are simple and just emotionally difficult to act upon.  The problem and the solution are usually obvious.  You know what to do.  Do what you know.  Acknowledge the fear and use it as fuel.

Timothy Ferriss

Parkinson’s Law and End of month quotas

Cyril Northcote Parkinson, author, historian, economist;

A task will swell in perceived importance and complexity in relation to the time allotted for its completion

If you have just 24 hours to complete a project, the time pressure forces you to focus on execution because your only choice is to focus on and complete only the bare essentials.

If you have a week to complete a task – it’s 6 days of making a mountain out of a mole hill.  If you have 6 months – you have a mental monster.

This is one reason why people who start their business with the attitude of  “I’ll give this 3 months, 6 months, a year and then see where I’m at” fail so miserably.   And why so much of a rep’s quotas or sales volume shows up in the last 24 hours of the month.

Bottomline: It’s the magic of the imminent deadline.  The end product of a short deadline is always of equal or greater quality because of the intense focus. So if your goal is for your business to generate $3,000. per month….that works out to be just $100. bucks per day.  So what do you “get to” do that will generate 100 bucks today?

The Morning After

Whether you achieved your goals for February – or exceeded them  – or not – here’s what you want to do today – Write your objectives and your daily schedule for March – Today!

Start with the End in Mind

Please understand that your mind thinks in pictures and for the most part – in a linear manner.  It can only plan according to what it understands currently.  Start with setting a daily schedule for building your business.  It takes a minimum of 1-2 hours per day of focused effort to get your business going.  Next – add “activity” goals  – how many people are you going to speak with each day, what time slots are you blocking off for learning new things?  What time of each day are you scheduled to visit with your mentor or coach?

A good place to write all of this is in your appt book, or whatever calender you use to run your home and life.  Everyone has some place they keep track of their appts, kids games, vacations etc.  And if you happen to have one specifically for your business that’s even better.  The point is make a schedule, write it down, fill in your activity goals and take action.

Notice that all of the above are activities you have complete control of.   This way your mind masters what to do and how to do the things that create the production goals that lead to the money and things you desire versus giving it something that is way out there that it doesn’t believe yet and doesn’t know how to attain it.  Your mind has to see things that are attainable, and how to do them then your mind can become more excited because it can see that it is doable and once it’s doable it becomes believable and once you’ve installed new beliefs about who you are and what you’re capable of then who you get to BE, DO and HAVE expands exponentially.

It’s True! – the people at the top make all the money

CEOs of large U.S. companies last year made as much money from JUST ONE DAY on the job as average workers made over the entire year. According to an Associated Press survey of 386 Fortune 500 companies in 2006, the executives averaged $10.8 million in total compensation, that’s over 364 times the pay of the average American worker!

As business owners, entrepreneurs we’re each at the top of our own company, we’re each the captain of our own team and as such we “get to” choose our players.   Choose wisely and act accordingly.

Dr W. G Watson – you could be related??

Some of you may have seen his interview on CNN in between Ollympic stuff.  He went to med school in 1939, served in Army, been in practice since 1945, still in practice, delivered over 14,000 babies…and just turned 100 YO.  He is oldest practicing physician in the US.  He could have delivered someone in your family tree because with 65 yrs in practice that’s 3 generations….that’s Great grandparent territory!

He LOVES what he does.  During the interview I watched this was exceedingly obvious and sincere.  He sees his role in life as part of a much bigger picture, that he is just a vessel serving the greater good.  He is both Blessed and a Blessing.

Now for the Network Marketers out there – contrast that to a prospect that says “No thanks I love my job”.  Do they mean it or are they just scared…trapped in a cycle of work, bills and checks…and afraid to even breathe?   It doesn’t matter…the bottomline is they’re not ready.  Move on to someone who is.  No amount of facts, details, science, media, serum, true face ultra, super drink samples are going to make them ready.

Find the people who do want to look young, make money or both.

Have a Blessed day and may you live to be 100+ doing what you love.
