In Chicago there was a teacher named Marva Collins who left the public school system to start her own school. I have heard that there still is a 3 year wait to get one’s child intoo her school.
Here’s a great quote from Marva;
” I have discovered few learning disabled students in my 30 years of teaching, I have, however, discovered many many victims of teaching inabilities. ”
Marva focused on identifying and magnifying each student’s unique gifts. On the day I visited her classroom she had this written on the board above the space where the day to day items were written;
” Trust yourSelf. Think for yourSelf. Act for yourSelf. Speak for yourSelf. BE yourSelf. ”
So when coaching clients we follow her words, especially BE yourSelf! and focus on magnifying the unique gifts of whomever you’re coaching.
**Marva is retired from teaching in a classroom and now resides in South Carolina. She continues to coach teachers and consult with private schools. She is one of life’s “Exceptional People”.
