Yesterday’s post provoked strong repsonses.
ALL fear is just a learned response. We are born with only 3 fears; fear of abandonment, fear of loud noises, and fear of falling.
Fear of abandonment is the only truly innate fear. As infants we must know on some level that we cannot survive without assistance from adult humans.
Fear of loud noises we learn…babies in the womb can hear…and when a loud noise scare mom…and mom flinches and produces flight or fight chemicals in her blood stream…the baby learns to connect the loud noise and moms responses….hence learning to be afraid of loud noises.
Fear of falling…pregnant moms are physically off balance and constantly “catching themselves” from falling…which produces the same flight or fight chemicals…which the baby connects to the sudden jerky movements…thus learning to fear falling.
So we’re born with only 3 fears and every other fear you have today was/is learned! And if you’re still above ground you can learn a new response, you can un-learn your fears in one of two ways;
The antidote to fear is Gratitude and Action. Grateful that you learned it because in some way it served you. And from a place of gratitude you can dismiss the fear.
And the very best way to defeat fear is through Action. DO the thing you fear and attach a new meaning to it. Very often we find; “Gee that wasn’t so bad afterall”
Re-member you’ve done it before.
Live with Intention,
