Webster says;

Good Morning Team – some people got the impression I am less than fond of  New Year’s “Resolutions”.  That is correct.  Here’s why;

The word *RESOLUTION* itself is a nominalization, a verb formed into a noun.   It comes from the word “resolve”, which means to solve, again! And so many people get into a pattern of re-solving old problems and then never actually solving them because they’ve turned a process into an event.

A static event.  Meaning they get “stuck” in a pattern, making it part of their identity and then falling into the trap of blaming bad behavior on their past, ie “I’ve always been this way” or blaming it on genetics, ie “my parents were overweight”, or blaming it on their environment, “my brother smoked” or “we grew up poor”.  In other words they choose the trap of “victim”.
The often hard to swallow, difficult to face truths are;
1.    “Your past does not equal your future” – Tony Robbins
2.     Researchers are now saying; “genetics only 10%, behavior 90%”
3.    The behaviors of your family, friends and peers are either a warning of what NOT to do or an example to follow.
4.    We all have a self determined level of personal “Response-Ability”

So – skip the “resolutions” and start Living with Intention, continuously evolving, making new choices, seeking coaches, mentors, new friends who have already achieved the results you seek.

It’s a lot like iceskating

Coaching clients sometimes say; “no one told me building a business was going to be this hard”

Here is an analogy that I tell people. My daughter Casey was about 4 years old when she started ice skating.   All she knew is that she wanted to be an Olympic skater like the ones on TV.  As a parent should I really say; …..”now Casey you know you will fall about 3,600 times. You will break some bones. The ice is incredibly hard, and while other children are in their warm beds you will be freezing on ice at 5:30 every morning.   And by the way your odds of being an Olympian are 1 in a million.  Now go get’em!”

Should I destroy her dreams and just tell her?  NOT!!  My job as a parent is to encourage and guide her….she’ll experience all the other stuff along the way….and if she’s really committed to her goal…she’ll work thru it if she decides the sacrifice is worth it.

Same for our business, or any worthwhile goal.

Here’s another example;

When you are studying for your degree, do the colleges drill you on how hard it is to get a job, or how hard office politics can be, or how many will get laid off, how many will not be able to retire etc etc?  No!  They empower you to get an education and the rest is up to the student.

On the way to any worthwhile goal, each person’s journey is unique.  Some people find building a business to be incredibly easy.  Others have a different journey….a different perception.  Hard, soft, fast, slow, easy = all based upon perception.

When you hire a business coach you have real life earning, while you’re learning, from people who have already done what you want to do.

So whether it’s ice skating, college degree or building this business…people always make the time and find the resources for the things they’re committed to.   What are you committed to?  And how can we assist you today?

Seen at the gym

Went to gym yesterday….saw cartoon posted on wall…doctor talking to overweight patient; caption;

“What fits better into your “I’m too busy” schedule – exercising 1 hour a day or being dead 24hours a day?”

Today a lot of people go back to work…..many will focus on “year end”, summing up the year’s business…..some will be focused on this coming year…..and it is likely many of us will have similar thoughts as this week progresses…leading up to the now infamous “New Year’s Resolution’s”.

The awful / magnificent truth is….if you woke up above ground this morning then all you and I have is TODAY!  ..That’s it…nothing more and nothing less.

And today you and I can choose to schedule time for building our business…or not.

And if we’re fortunate to wake up above ground tomorrow…we can choose to focus on scheduling time to build our business or to lament about what we could have done yesterday….or celebrate the actions we take today!

If we can assist you in anyway today call / writenow.

Honey Bees make Honey, Winner’s Win and…

 Honey bees make honey, Winners win….and Slackers slack.

This is one of the 3 weeks in the year where you’ll frequently hear prospects say; “Call me after the holidays”.   You can drive yourself crazy making appts to call these people back and the result will be your new January calender will be very messy with crossouts, whiteouts, blackouts and you’ll likely hear a lot of “I/we didn’t get around to it”.

So after 11 years here’s what I/we do;  Have them take my name/number and call me back.

Most people can’t remember what they had for dinner two nights ago, never mind a 30 second phone call they had days or weeks ago.   Here’s what we’ve learned: the serious ones DO call you back.    The rest??….in January we’ll teach you what to do with December’s leads, even the ones that say “call me back”.  (no need to keep track)

In my opinion, If you let people procrastinate, they will, and then you’ve done them a great dis-service.  And yet there is a fine line between being urgent and being pushy.  Play the line, live on the edge, be bold, learn where the line is…Learn by doing!

As for top sales people…this is the time of year where the Leaders step it up a notch, call more, prospect more, present more.   Why -Because average reps slack off, using the holidays as an excuse.  And that means prospects have less people from less companies contacting them.  The leaders set a schedule for building their business and stick to it, understanding that a 1% -2% – 10% extra effort in December makes for a more lucrative December and lays the groundwork for capturing more of the market in January.

Bottomline; Honey bees make honey, Winner’s win and Slackers Slack.

Many of life’s failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success at the very moment they gave up.”   –Thomas Edison
