Going to the Doctor – we humans are sooo funny.

A typical doctor visit;

A person is sick, not feeling well. So they go to the doctor, sit in waiting room for x amount of time, finally get to see the doc, who listens, maybe asks questions and maybe does some kind of exam. Typically then the doc pulls out a small pad of paper, scribbles a few notes and hands the paper to the person. A prescription. And it is extremely likely that the patient probably can’t even read the scribble.

Now they’re off to the pharmacist whom they probably don’t know and maybe never even get to meet or speak with. The pharmacist, or more likely a pharmacy tech, translates the scribble and hands over a bottle of pills sometimes with instructions on how to take them. And where do the docs and pharmacy folks get their info from? A drug rep they don’t know who maybe claims to be able to translate the scientific jargon they read in a paper, or more likely, recites the buzz line “benefits” that their sales manager told them to repeat.

And to top it off, it is not very likely that the drug that was recommended was used personally by anyone in the supply chain. Certainly no doc would ever “try” every drug they write a prescription for.

Why do people do this? Why do people submit to so many “unknowns” blindly and willingly. Because;

#1. They want to get well. They want the end result.

#2. They trust the doctor or the process.

Wonder how this applies to your business?

Be like Johnny Appleseed

Don’t judge each day by the harvest you reap, but by the seeds you plant.

–Robert Louis Stevenson, Poet and Novelist

Speaking with someone, getting their contact info and scheduling a call is planting a seed. Sending emails, handing out flyers, business cards, classifieds, billboards = NOT planting a seed

Having someone experience the results or your product or service first hand or see a live presentation is planting a seed. Dropping off a brochure, DVD or other material for someone to “look at” = NOT planting a seed.

Presenting to all decision makers at once is planting a seed. Letting them talk to their spouse, significant other, accountant, plumber or dog-catcher about it = NOT planting a seed.

Taking the actions necessary to be successful is planting a seed. Wishing, hoping, thinking about it, waiting for “it” to happen or your reps to do more = NOT planting a seed.

Funny thing about seeds….some fall on hard ground, some are swept away by the wind and rain, some are eaten by birds and some grow to produce fruit with more seeds.

The faith of a seasoned farmer, based upon experience is one thing and true faith in the process is another. Both a seasoned farmer and a first time farmer must have faith in the process.

The process works…when you work it.

I’m a Farmer, You’re a Farmer, we are Farmers all.

Good Morning – There are laws that govern the weather, planting, growing, harvesting. The farmer must prepare the soil, plant the seed, weed and water the garden, keep away pests, and have faith.

There are no guarantees that a seed will sprout, that weather will cooperate or that pests or tyrants won’t destroy what you’ve planted. The faith of a seasoned farmer, based upon experience is one thing and true faith in the process is another. Both a seasoned farmer and a first time farmer must have faith in the process.

Your business is the garden, your contacts are your seeds, Prosperity is your crop, Freedom is your reward. Prosperity is harvested by those who start with faith followed by action. You get what you give, reap what you sow. The grass is always greenest where you water it.

You must get good at one of two things: sowing in the spring or begging in the fall.

–Jim Rohn

God has the tough end of the deal. What if instead of planting the seed you had to make the tree? That would keep you up late at night, trying to figure that one out.

–Jim Rohn

The ground work has been done for us somewhere in a lab, back at the company, or in the case where you are your “brand”, in your prior life experience. The tough end of the deal is done, so let’s get out there and plant some seeds, invite people to see and hear what you/we have to offer. Only then can we reap what we’ve sown.
