Might apply to your business

While it’s not necessary to actually use the product you sell, example no doctor uses every drug he prescribes, it is usually easier to sell a product or service you have personally used.

I went out in search of a friend and found none out there;
I went out to BE a friend and found them everywhere.

–Aristotle

And the corollary for business;

I went out in search of a customer and found none out there;
I went out to BE a customer and found them everywhere.

Happy Healthy St Patrick’s Day and Luck is

In any economy there will always be people who Thrive or Dive, Play Big or Play Small, Choose to Be Victor or Victim. There are always three sides to every story, His, Hers and the Truth.

CNN (Constantly Negative News) reported yesterday; “Unemployment and Inflation Up”

Bloomberg reported yesterday; “The # of US Millionaires increased 8% in 2010”

I choose to follow successful people, so here’s what Warren Buffet had to say just three days ago;

Money will always flow toward opportunity, and there is an abundance of that in America, our best days lie ahead.”

And since today is St Patrick’s Day;

Luck is what happens when hard work and preparation meets opportunity.”

Seneca, 1st century Roman Philosopher

And finally from one of my favorite mentors;

I’m a great believer in luck, and I find the harder I work, the more I have of it

Key Points for webinars and presentations

As fuel prices rise and technology continues to improve, electronic or virtual meetings will grow in popularity. Here’s a few key points from fellow business coach, Tom McCarthy. Bold emphasis is mine.

Subject: Presentation Survey Results

For over 20 years we have been a market leader in helping people design and deliver presentation that get people to take action. Last week we sent out a request for you to participate in a survey designed to help us understand how effective you think the presentations you have to attend are.

The breakdown of people answering the survey was Executives 28%, Managers 17%, Salespeople 27%, Engineers 16%, and Operations 5%.

55% of the attendees said that at least half of the presentations they attend are conducted “virtually”….Probably the most sobering news from the survey is that 45% of the respondents said they listen a maximum of 5 minutes to presentations that they do not find interesting and 73% are completely tuned out after 10 minutes.

Conclusions:
Virtual presentations are becoming more and more a day to day reality. Customers and audiences do not have patience for presentations that don’t deliver. Every day, presentations are being delivered that fall short of their goal and quite frankly waste everyone’s time. But there is hope. If you work at it, you can be one of the elite presenters that enjoys presenting and delivers their presentation with a charismatic presence that drives the audience to action.
–Thomas McCarthy & Associates

As presenters we have the first 2 to 5 minutes to tell our story – powerfully and succinctly, THEN tell them what’s in it for them and then share what “it” is.

Remember, it’s not what you say it’s how you say it that produces action and at the end of the day it’s what the audience remembers that is most important.

and finally – you can’t say the right thing to the wrong person and you can’t say the wrong thing to the right person.

Thrive or Dive

I’ve noticed there are some common characteristics found in companies and individuals who Thrive vs Dive during uncertain times. One must look beyond the chatter and prattle of CNN (Constantly Negative News) to find the shining stars. These Companies and individuals;

1) Operate from a win/win philosophy and value their business relationships above any particular sale.

2) Have an entrepreneurial mindset. Their ability to take risks, be decisive, recognize and seize opportunity and to “create”, allows them to find ways to use adversity as fuel and perceived scarcity as a reason to “create”.

3) Have an excellent work ethic and focus. Their work ethic and drive to be their personal best allows them to BE consistent and persistent.

4) Have made a commitment to succeed. Making a decision is the prerequisite to all successes. The root of the word “decide” means to cut off all other possibilities.

5) Operate out of faith. Faith allows you to be free to give and be your best, knowing that the reward will manifest itself sometime in the future. While others are spending their time and energy complaining, those with faith are identifying seizing, and creating new opportunities.

Carpe Diem!

The end of the “End Result”

Last week I spent a lot of time delving into the “end result” and I would be remiss if I didn’t give you it’s counterpart; “The Process”.

Yes people go to the doctor and willingly submit to multiple unknowns because they want the end result of feeling well. People buy insurance because they want the end result of a sense of peace or security. People buy a coffee, Red Bull or sugared drink because they want the end result of energy so they can live life.

Who you become in the process of building your business is ultimately way more important and ultimately way more valuable than any “end result”. It does absolutely no good for us as individuals or the people we have in our lives if we achieve our goals and we’re still angry, fearful, miserly, timid, or otherwise playing life small. A rich jerk is just that, a rich jerk.

This is why you’ll often hear seasoned business owners say; “The Journey is the Reward“, or “The true product we have to offer is freedom“. The FREEDOM to become the best version of you – so that the greater good of all is served at the highest level possible. Nelson Mandela and countless others speak of letting your Light shine upon the world.

This is the way my wife and I see our business journey;

We’re attracting a Global Community of Extraordinary Individuals, dedicated to Loving, Learning and Connecting with Grace and Abundance“.

How do you see your business fitting into the world?
