Time marches on

To achieve great things, two things are needed; a plan, and not quite enough time.

Top 3 Reasons for…

Here are the Top 3 Reasons people give for Starting, Not Starting, and Quitting a business.

1. I don’t have the time
2. I don’t have any money
3. Wife, Hubby, Significant other, Relative, LIFE (Birth, Death, Illness, layoff, Move, other)

Since the reasons given are all the same…what’s the underlying difference? Why do people use one reason to start and the same reason to quit? Answer = Emotion(s). Where do emotions come from? Our interpretations and perceptions. Which are based upon sensory input (5 senses) and what we’ve learned previously.

It is well known that our senses are limited in what they take in ie only small parts of the light or sound spectrum. And it is well known that we are born with just one innate fear – abandonment, and 2 learned fears – loud noises and falling. All other fears we have are ones we’ve learned. And therefore they can be un-learned.

And all “un-learning” comes from having new experiences which are preceded by new thoughts which resulted in new actions which resulted in new experiences.

For Starting, Not starting, and Quitting the underlying emotion is Fear. And the only known antidote to fear is Action. And the way we move human beings to act is to ask questions that help them find their inspiration or motivation. This is our main tool as coaches, mentors, friends, parents – asking questions.

Example: We ask children “how will you be certain there’s no boogeyman in the dark corner of the room?” Answer = action = “by turning on the light”.

Ultimately, people are motivated by either Inspiration or Desperation. They will DO more to avoid pain than they will to seek pleasure. And they will ACT upon emotions first, THEN they seek to justify or rationalize their decision.

Now ask yourSelf a great question; “In relation to my success in my business, what’s a thought I’ve never thought before?

Top 3 Reasons people Quit their business

Good Morning Team – Here are the Top 3 reasons people Quit their business;

1. I don’t have the time
2. I don’t have any money
3. Wife, Hubby, Significant other, Relative, LIFE (Birth, Death, Illness, layoff, Move, other)

The #1 Reason people Quit… Time – “takes time away from family, friends, hobbies”

The Truth is: If someone were to get another part time job in order to make more money – they would have to take time away from family, friends, hobbies. They would have to negotiate with family members for the time away, for someone else to do their chores, for the extra use of the car, for the extra expenses associated with clothing, travel related to the other job. And what’s worse is – the time away would not be flexible…they would not be able to say to their new boss – “I’ll be there right after I clean the garage, go to My kid’s game, take care of my sick cat, parent, etc…” So Yes absolutely you must have all those same negotiations when you decide to make the time to build your business. And the great thing is that when you have your own business – you get to decide the business time versus family time.

The #2 Reason people Quit… Money – They say “can’t afford it” in other words they fail to see any capital output as an investment in building their business. OR they’ve failed to get over their emotional issues relating to money…usually having to do with asking for the sale.

The Truth is: Everyone has money “issues” and their success in business, as measured financially, is directly related to their ability to “get Right with Money’. Only Consistent, Persistent, hard work on yourSelf is required.

The #3 reason people Quit…LIFE – Negative spouse, friend, relative. Too old, too young to retire. Health – injury, illness, Bankruptcy, Births, deaths, divorces, and other significant life events.

The Truth is: LIFE is WHY we have our own business. The same events happen to all of us. Some people use the “events” or “stuff” of life as reasons, excuses to play small, shrink or pull back. Some people let their negative friends and family talk them out of their dreams and goals. (Understand that when people do that it is most often due to them not wanting to step up and improve their situation so they try to hold you and others down at their level.) You and I use the same “events” or “stuff” as fuel, reasons to expand, grow, excel, succeed, BE, DO and HAVE more. It’s always our choice because…

It’s NEVER what happens to you – it’s ALWAYS what you DO about it

Top 3 Reasons People Start a Business

Here are the Top 3 reasons people start a business;

1. I don’t have the time
2. I don’t have any money
3. Now I want to talk to my wife about it (or hubby, significant other, relative)

The #1 Reason people start their own business…

    Money

– They’re attracted to the FREEDOM that comes from having your own business – one that includes systems that do NOT require your daily input. (think Robert Kiyosaki’s definition) OR they are smart enuff to realize in today’s world unless you have multiple streams of income you and your family are at risk of losing it all. (Think Richard Bach’s books)

The #2 Reason people start their own business…

    Time

– They want more time with family, friends and to do the things they want to do. I had an awesome career as a Sports Doc – and no time to have a life. People who have to punch a clock have even less time to be with family, friends – especially in today’s economy where so many have to work more than one job. Having a business with systems like a Franchise or a Network Marketing business allows you to leverage your time and build an income stream that produces revenue 24/7, 365.

The #3 Reason people start their own business…

Their spouse, significant other started with us and dragged them along, willingly or unwillingly. And at some point joint decisions must be made regarding expenditures for re-investing into the business or decisions need to be made regarding the income and what to do with it. And sometimes one spouse starts the business, the other sees the potential and takes over. Bottomline; even if just one spouse is “doing the business” – together they’re “a couple in business”.

Tomorrow I’ll share the top 3 reasons people QUIT their business.

What you see is what you get.

“What you and I focus upon consistently becomes our reality.”

–Earl Nightingale

“One reason so few of us achieve what we truly want is that we never direct our focus; we never concentrate our power. Most people dabble their way through life, never deciding to master anything in particular”.

–Tony Robbins

“Seek not to change the world, but choose to change your mind about the world. What you see reflects your thinking. And your thinking but reflects your choice of what you want to see.”

–from A Course in Miracles
