What’s better than a New Year’s Resolution? Part 1

Purpose

What were you put on earth to do? That’s a mind-blowing question, and most people don’t know the answer. Lots of folks get up, go to work, come home, eat dinner, sit in front of the TV and go to sleep. That’s their day…not their purpose by any means.

In most cases, they probably don’t know any better. This was how their parents lived each day; this was how they grew up. Maybe they think: “this is it – this is all life has to offer.”

If you don’t know your purpose, then your first purpose is to get a purpose.

When you look at the lives of the most successful people who ever lived, you can see that they had a definite purpose and they knew it. Some examples are: Christ – His purpose was spiritual, and stated in John 10:10, which reads: “I am come that you might have life, and that you might have it more abundantly.”

Dr. R. Buckminster Fuller’s purpose: “Humanity’s comprehensive welfare on spaceship earth.”

Mother Teresa’s purpose: “To care for and comfort the poor, sick and needy all over the world.”

Henry Ford’s purpose: “To mass produce, mass distribute and have cars mass consumed.”

Andrew Carnegie’s purpose: “To manufacture and market steel.”

Walt Disney’s purpose: “To make people happy.”

Sidenote: Never confuse a purpose with a goal. Goals are great! I/we teach goal setting, and believe it is crucial to achieving any kind of success. But goals alone, by themselves, can be indiscriminate and undirected. Your purpose is or should be the underlying core that gives your goals direction and meaning.

Discovering your purpose will put your life into crystal-clear perspective. You won’t see the world you once knew. You will see another world, one in which you are a necessary and intricate spoke in the wheel. You absolutely have a purpose for being on this planet, and your purpose is waiting for you to figure it out…if you haven’t already.

How do you find your purpose? My suggestion is meditation, or deep, controlled, concentrated thought. Find a quiet place where you won’t be disturbed. Relax and tap into your mind, way back there in the deepest, secret compartment of your mind, by asking yourSelf this question:

If I knew my life purpose, what would it be?

Grab a pen, some notebook paper and start writing. Keep asking this question until you get the answer. It may not come the first day, or even the first week. Just know it’s there, and it will show its face if you earnestly ask.

Resolutions only require words …. Results require action

Good Morning Team – New Year’s Resolutions – soon tossed or forgotten. Hundreds of goal setting techniques, programs, tools. I’ve bought my share, used a few, taught 2 for years…tossed most. Now after 22 years of being in the Personal Development arena as either a participant or coach here’s what I’ve learned the many complex tools boil down to;

1. Decide
2. Take Massive Action
3. Change your Physiology

1. Decide – A: Decide what you’re grateful for in your life right now. Gratitude removes fear from your thoughts. It is THE starting point of all creation of all things.
B: Decide what you want. Yes it’s that simple. And yet 99% of initial coaching sessions start with the person rattling off all the things they don’t want…”don’t want to be broke, tired, commuting, missing my kids life, not traveling…yadda yadda yadda” All the stuff they currently have because that’s what they’re focused on. So from a place of gratitude – pretend you’re a kid again – about to write a list for Santa.

2. Take Massive Action – A: write it down. If it’s not written, it’s not going to happen. Period. Nothing fancy necessary. At a recent Success Summit Event – Kathy Dennison – previous maid turned $20 millionaire – showed her written goals…a single sheet of notebook paper..torn out with a handwritten list of items she had written 22 years earlier when she first started her NuSkin business. She had just crossed off her last goal – and had started a fresh sheet of goals…again handwritten on notebook paper.
B: DO the things necessary, do them often, consistently and persistently until you’ve achieved all of your goals. Your coach will guide you as to what’s necessary.

3. Change Your Physiology This could mean drinking 1 extra glass of water, going for a walk, sleeping longer or less, or starting to eat properly or exercise. Changing your physiology automatically changes your brain chemistry which leads directly to new thoughts, new ideas, and fresh behavior. The phrase “stinkin thinkin” comes partly from human bodies sitting in front of a TV hour after hour and their bodily fluids literally get stale, run out of oxygen, their blood thickens, wastes accumulate in organs especially the brain, etc etc. So DO something to change your physiology. Do it often, consistently and persistently.

Remember; Disney saw the theme park while standing in a swamp, Michelangelo saw David in a block of marble, races are won before they start, months are finished before they end and business are built like a jigsaw puzzle – by seeing the big picture first.

Competency and confidence come from taking action and getting results. Success and Peace come from seeing it in your mind first, and believing that you “will”, even if you don’t know the “how”. You must see it, feel it, be there, like the result has already happened, and have the certainty “before” you take the action.

See it > Be it > Do it > Have it.

“Gasp” Holiday sales up over last year!!

During a really bad economy, gloomers, doomers and a lot of others still went shopping….

Holiday Shopping: $30.8 Billion Spent
By CNNMoney.com December 29, 2010: 10:21 PM ET

Holiday shopping was strong right through Christmas, with consumers spending a record $30.8 billion for the season, according to research firm comScore in a report issued Wednesday. Especially online sales: for the 56 days ended Dec. 27 rose 13% from the same period in 2009. There was a 17% year-over-year surge overall in the week that ended Dec. 26.
——————————————————————————–

……because 1. People don’t want to spend less on gifts this year than they spent last year. AND;

2. Sales is never about the money it’s always about the desire. When people really desire something they always will go find the money.

If your prospects are giving you the “I don’t have the money” excuse – it’s simply because you didn’t touch on – and ignite – their emotions relating to the benefits of your product or service or Freedom. The kind of Freedom you and they “get to” feel after you’ve worked with a team of people who constantly & continuously seek to improve themselves and the world we live in. The kind of Freedom you “get to” feel when you know in your heart of hearts that you’re part of something bigger than all of us and that by your contribution as a team member you “get to” to put your head on the pillow at night knowing that you’ve given your all.

At the end of every presentation a “sale” will be made. Either you will have lit their fire for the benefits relating to the purchase of your product, service or Freedom and they buy you – or from you. Or you “buy” their excuses – paying with your feelings of disappointment, lack, a smaller bank account and wasted time.

Freedom is our true product. One that people have paid the highest price for. Whether it’s for something as simple as Christmas shopping or something bigger – people will always find the money for the things they really desire. And therefore we know this for a fact; money is never the issue – the level of Desire always is.

Dr Bill Toth and Richard Branson on Taking Chances

From Richard Branson Entrepreneur Magazine Article December 27, 2010:

Q: I don’t have enough confidence to give up my career in banking and follow my dream of starting a business as a personal trainer. Should I continue with banking since I am still somewhat enjoying it? ~ Leon Belobrov, Australia

A: When you decide to pursue an entrepreneurial venture, you have to confront your doubts and fears; sometimes you just have to go for it. Many times I have hesitated before launching a new venture or investment, even after my team and I have vetted it and we’re ready to go ahead. I’m lucky that I have a great network of friends and advisers to take soundings from.

If you believe that your personal training business can succeed, draw up a short plan describing how it would be different from other such businesses, how you would build it up and attract customers. Discuss this plan with trusted friends or advisers (make sure you ask people individually, and not as a group). Collecting and acting on this feedback is a crucial step before launching any business.

I can’t help you make this decision without knowing more about your situation. However, I can tell you that when I have to decide whether or not to go ahead with a new venture, I have often found that intuition is my best guide. What does your intuition tell you? If you decide to go ahead, be prepared for a bumpy ride. Most entrepreneurs fail the first time they enter a market – or at the very least have to recover from a tricky scrape.

Bill’s Answer: So often the people we coach over complicate things in their mind and then get stuck in the paralysis of “anal-ysis” or “what if’s” or the worst > listening to the “they says” that haven’t done it!! Yes of course there are many common-sense considerations like putting food on the table yadda yadda yadda. They are important considerations and possibly not the most important. Human beings pay a huge price financially, emotionally, physically and spiritually when they stay in a job they hate, dislike, feel they “have to” do so for any number of reasons. So most business advisors, coaches, mentors will recommend that you purseu your passion on a part time basis until your income from that is appx half what your full time income is. That way you gain experience, wisdom, track record and can still put food on the table.

Having said that; is that what I did? No I followed my intuition and took a big leap of faith. I went for it 100%. Did I struggle – yes absolutely. It was the hardest thing I’ve ever done and it’s been the most rewarding on every level. I’ve made many mistakes and have learned to combine down to earth values with a unique ability to distill complex concepts into simple, powerful strategies which can be immediately applied to produce measurable results. In short;

I’ve traveled the territory, drawn a few maps and I’m happy to share them”

The Envelope Please… The Entrepreneur of 2010 Awards

3 brave souls who ignored the “They says” and pursued their passions, who combined making money with “Making a Difference” and doing good in the world. I am very pleased to note that especially in the last 2 years this has been a growing trend because it clearly shows that people are basically good, that they strive to “Make a Difference” and create a better world when they can and that money is merely a tool.

In my own experience, who you become in the process of pursuing your dreams is the very best reward. My questions for you are; which of your dreams will you pursue this coming year? and how will that dream benefit others and why you, why now?
